If one or both partners is an NRI, PIO, OCI or foreign national, the marriage must be registered in a way that is recognised both in India and by the country where you live. We register NRI marriages under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 or the Hindu Marriage Act, and then complete the apostille or embassy attestation that makes the certificate valid overseas — essential for a spouse or dependent visa.

The key extra steps for NRIs are documentary. Alongside the standard age, identity and address proofs, we typically need the foreign partner's passport, valid visa or entry stamp, and a single-status (no-impediment) certificate from their home country, sometimes attested by their embassy in India. We tell you exactly what your destination country requires so the certificate is accepted the first time.

You do not always need both partners physically present for every step. Where the law allows, we use a properly executed power of attorney and careful scheduling so one partner can complete formalities remotely, then join for the parts that legally require presence. We coordinate documents across time zones and keep the process moving.
